#14 Eagles Handle Host Huskies, 4-1

The Ashland University women's soccer team rolled to a 4-1 road win at host Michigan Tech on Friday (Oct. 25) night in GLIAC action in Houghton.

The Eagles (11-1-1, 5-0 GLIAC), ranked No. 14 in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll, have now won their last eight games and are unbeaten in their last 10. Last season, Ashland started the season unbeaten in their first 11 games, and they opened the 2015 season with nine straight wins.

Senior forward Deijah Swihart scored twice on Friday as the Eagles scored the first four goals of the game.

Swihart got the Eagles off and running with a goal in the 24th minute.

Ashland took that 1-0 lead into halftime and held a 12-5 edge in shots in the first half. In the second half, Michigan Tech (3-8-1, 0-5 GLIAC) maintained a 13-6 lead, but the Eagles capitalized on their opportunities.

In the 55th minute, sophomore Faith Lewis got on the board for the sixth time this season, briefly once again tying Swihart for the team lead.

Swihart took that lead back just 86 seconds later with a goal that gave the Eagles a 3-0 lead. She has seven goals on the season.

In the 73rd minute, junior Abby Grzetic capped the Eagles' scoring with her first goal of the season.

Michigan Tech's Gabby Sgambati put the hosts on the board and ended the shutout just 28 seconds from the final whistle.

Junior keeper Hannah Lee made six saves and played the first 85 minutes of the game to improve her record to 9-0-1 on the season.

The Eagles will now travel to Marquette to take on Northern Michigan on Sunday (Oct. 27) at 1 p.m.
