AU Men No. 2, Women No. 8 In D-II Heading Into Nationals


The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings computers really like Ashland University's chances for big things at indoor nationals.

In the final USTFCCA NCAA Division II computer rankings prior to the 2019 D-II Championships on Friday and Saturday (March 8-9) at Pittsburg State (Kan.), the Eagle men remain at No. 2 in the country, while the AU women move up one spot to No. 8. These rankings are based solely on those student-athletes who will compete at indoor nationals.

In the men's rankings, Adams State is favored to win the nationals team title with 171.81 computer points, followed by Ashland (133.88), Central Missouri (109.75), Western Colorado (108.56) and Tiffin (103.45). The Eagles men with the top individual point totals are sophomore Brent Fairbanks in the weight throw (24.72), senior Myles Pringle in the 400-meter dash (23.71) and high jump (20.97), and sophomore Trevor Bassitt in the 60 hurdles (20.27).

On the women's side, the majority of Ashland's points come from redshirt freshman Lindsay Baker in the shot put (24.50), senior Natalie Helenthal in the weight throw (18.23) and junior Ellie Jindra in the high jump (18.11).
