No. 2 AU Men, Eagle Women Continue Nationals Quests At OSU


Ashland University's men's (ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division II) and women's outdoor track and field teams continued to pile up new and improved automatic and provisional nationals marks on Day 2 of the Jesse Owens Track Classic at The Ohio State University on Saturday (April 22).

Junior Elijah Talk turned in a new automatic nationals distance in the men's shot put, finishing second with a top heave of 18.97 meters/62-feet-2¾. Talk will compete in the shot at 2017 NCAA Division II nationals, May 25-27 in Bradenton, Fla.

In the men's 800-meter run, junior Hunter Heaton's seventh-place finish in 1:52.24 is a new provisional time, as was sophomore Brandon Wilson's 21.47 seconds in the men's 200 dash, good for eighth place. Senior Jason Zahn improved upon his previous provisional mark in the men's shot put, finishing eighth at 16.92 meters/55-feet-6.

Both freshman Ellie Jindra (fourth) and junior Hannah Bartlome (fifth) earned a new provisional distance of 1.68 meters/5-feet-6 in the women's high jump.

Sophomore Samantha Duale improved upon her previous provisional time in the women's 100 dash, finishing 13th in 11.91 seconds.

On Saturday at the 48th Annual Sparky Adams Invitational at Baldwin-Wallace, sophomore Jacob Sprague won the men's pole vault at 4.56 meters, and seniors Jonathan Albaugh (15:18.29) and Aubrey Jordan (15:22.00) were 1-2 in the men's 5,000 run.

Freshman Amber Otermat was second in the women's pole vault at 3.51 meters, while the women's 4x400 relay team of senior Austin Borton, senior Tiarra Kick, freshman Brittney Hart and junior Lydia Ott was the runner-up in 4:14.52.

Senior Eric Hansen took third in the men's 800 run in 1:56.42, and sophomore Emily Schumaker finished third in the women's 5,000 run in 18:34.65.
