Three days after putting herself into the top 10 of all-time NCAA Division II women's outdoor shot put distances, Ashland University senior Jamie Sindelar was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the fifth time in 2015-16.
Sindelar's winning distance of 16.99 meters on Saturday (April 30) at the seventh Ashland Alumni Open is the ninth-best mark in the history of Division II competition. The eight best women's shot put marks were turned in by former Eagles Adriane Blewitt (Wilson) during the 2002-03 outdoor seasons.
Sindelar paces Division II in the women's shot put by more than a meter. Her top distance would rank 13th in Division I.
Ashland University's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will compete at the 2016 GLIAC Championships on Wednesday-Friday (May 4-6) at Ferris State.
