Ashland University's Elijha Owens is this week's United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II men's track athlete of the week. The organization made the announcement today.
Owens is the second AU athlete to win the award this season. Earlier this year, Drew Windle was recognized.
Owens competed at the GLIAC Championships last weekend. He was named the GLIAC men's track athlete of the year.
At the GLIAC Championships, Owens won the 110 meter hurdles in a career-best and GLIAC-meet-record 13.96 (+0.2m/s) to improve his No. 3 national standing and took the 400-meter hurdles race in 51.43 to move up to seventh nationally.
He also ran a leg of the winning 4X4 and fourth place 4X1 relays and finished fourth at 100 meters in 10.98 to contribute 28.75 points to AU's point total. Ashland finished as the GLIAC runner-up.
