Eagle Men, Women Continue GLIAC Championship Action


On Day 2 of the 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships at Saginaw Valley State on Thursday (Feb. 9), a pair of Ashland University swimmers earned top-eight showings.

In the women's 200-yard freestyle, junior Grace Reichard took eighth place in 1:54.80. In the men's 400 individual medley, junior Christopher Georgiadis also was eighth, touching in 4:06.68.

Ashland's top relay effort on Thursday came from the men's 200 free relay team of sophomore Ben Keilholz, freshman Charlie Sutton, sophomore Keegan Goeke and senior John Scalli. They placed fifth in 1:24.21.

The women's 200 free relay team of Reichard, sophomore Julia Grady, junior Zoe Scarpone and freshman Rebecca Prexta was sixth in 1:37.45; the women's 400 medley relay team of senior Megan Schultz, sophomore Sophie Brightman, Prexta and sophomore Erin Staley took seventh in 4:04.04; and the men's 400 medley relay team of Goeke, sophomore Matthew Bernsdorf, freshman Aaron Bradfield and junior Joshua Nixon was seventh in 3:30.21.

In the team standings after two days, both the AU men and women are sixth.
