Eagle Swimming Falls To Warriors In Home Opener

The Ashland University men's and women's swim and dive teams fell in Meserly Natatorium on Saturday (Nov. 7) to the Wayne State Warriors.

The Eagle men fell, 155-130, and the women came up short, 164-125.

The score didn't reflect the success many Eagle swimmer saw in the water on Saturday.

AU senior Hannah Mattar had a nice day, claiming victory in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.95), 200 breaststroke (2:28.36) and the 200 individual medley (2:12.07).

Eagle junior Megan Schultz also collected two first-place prizes, as she won the 100 backstroke in 1:00.60 and the 200 back in 2:10.44.

Freshman Daniel Callis was electric in the breaststroke. He won the 100 in 1:00.23 and the 200 in 2:15.84.

Sophomore Ryan Deemer touched first in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 9:57.37, while sophomore Grace Reichard came home first in the 200 free (1:55.25).

AU sophomore Zoe Scarpone crossed first in the 100 butterfly, crossing in 1:00.48. Rounding out the field of winners was sophomore Christopher Georgiadis. He claimed gold in the 200 IM in 2:00.87.

The Eagles will return to the water on Dec. 4-5 at the Eastern Michigan Invitational.
