Ashland University's swimmers and divers have completed action in Day 1 (Friday, Nov. 21) of the three-day Cleveland State Magnus Invitational.
Junior Hannah Mattar, the reigning Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week, placed third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.03). Another third-place finish was turned in by the Ashland men's 400-yard medley relay team of junior Sergio Sanchis Peris, sophomore Greg Walters, freshman Christopher Georgiadis and freshman Joshua Nixon (3:27.43).
The AU men's 200-yard freestyle relay foursome of Sanchis Peris and freshmen Andrew Martin, Logan Rex and Matthew Wilcox placed fourth (1:25.55), as did Sanchis Peris in the 50-yard freestyle (20.96).
Yet another freshman, Ryan Deemer, was fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:43.86).
The team standings show Ashland's men third (321 points) in the four-team field led by the host Vikings (655), and the Eagle women seventh (114) in that nine-team pack, led by Duquesne (499).
The Eagles will continue to compete at CSU Saturday (Nov. 22) and Sunday (Nov. 23). That will conclude Ashland's first-semester part of its 2014-15 schedule.
