AU Splits DH With Oilers, 11-Game Winning Streak Snapped

Ashland University's softball team split a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Tuesday (April 21) against Findlay at Brookside Park, winning 7-2 and losing 7-6.

The Eagles' 11-game winning streak was snapped with the Game 2 loss. AU is 32-6 overall and 17-5 in the GLIAC, and is in third place in the conference - 1½ games behind first-place Wayne State and percentage points behind second-place Saginaw Valley State.

The Oilers are 23-17, 11-8.

In Game 1, Ashland used a three-run bottom of the third inning and single runs in the first, second, fifth and sixth innings to go on to victory. Junior first baseman Jen Moore was 2-for-4 with her eighth home run and two RBIs, senior center fielder Taylor Menhart was 2-for-4 with two triples and two runs scored and junior catcher Bri Buckley and junior shortstop Shelbie Prince each had two of AU's 12 hits.

Junior pitcher Sarah Alley improved to 10-0 after allowing six hits, two runs and four walks and striking out three in six innings.

The nightcap saw the Eagles fall behind 2-0 after two innings and 3-1 after three innings, but three runs in the top of the fourth put Ashland ahead 4-3. Findlay then tied the game at 4 with a run in the bottom of the fourth, and took the lead 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth.

Ashland clawed back with single runs in the sixth and seventh before Findlay won in the bottom of the seventh.

Moore was 3-for-4 with her second homer of the day and ninth of the season, and three RBIs. Menhart was 2-for-4 with an RBI, sophomore right fielder Jenny Raguz was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and senior catcher Jerrica Young and sophomore left fielder Ally Farrah each had two of the Eagles' 12 hits.

The Eagles will finish GLIAC regular-season play on Friday (April 24) at Northwood and Saturday (April 25) at Brookside West against Lake Superior State.
