Ashland University pitcher Emlyn Knerem (Brunswick, Ohio) and first baseman Franki Gironda (Akron, Ohio/Hoban) have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team. As first team selections, the two players will now move on to the national Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot.
Knerem is a senior sport management major with a 3.83 grade point average. She is the 2012 GLIAC pitcher of the year and she is AU's career leader in victories (95). Knerem is a four-time first team All-GLIAC selection and she is a three-time GLIAC All-Academic Team pick. Knerem was the 2012 Ashland University sport management major of the year.
Gironda hit .339 this season with six homers and 39 RBI. She was third on the team and 10th in the GLIAC in RBI. Gironda has been named to the GLIAC honorable mention list in both 2011 and 2012. She is a two-year starter and AU has advanced to the NCAA playoffs both years. Gironda is an athletic training major with a 3.48 GPA.
