Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field will play host to a matchup of two Top-25 teams in NCAA Division II on Sept. 5.

The AFCA Division II Coaches' Top 25 Preseason Poll was revealed on Monday (Aug. 26) afternoon, and Ashland University's football team will begin the 2019 season at No. 23 in the country. The Eagles will play host to No. 16 Indianapolis on Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. to open the new campaign.

This is the third time in the last four seasons that Ashland has been in the AFCA preseason top 25 (No. 6 in 2016, No. 15 in 2018). Overall, since the AFCA took over the poll in 2000, the Eagles have been in the top 25 on 71 occasions.

Earlier this month, Ashland was slotted No. 2 in the 2019 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.

The Eagles are joined in the AFCA preseason poll by two other GLIAC sides – Ferris State (No. 2) and Grand Valley State (No. 12).

Ashland is coming off a 2018 season in which it went 6-4 overall and 6-2 in the GLIAC, with all four defeats coming at the hands of nationally-ranked teams by a total of 21 points. The Eagles return seven starters each on offense and defense, and a total of nine All-GLIAC players from a year ago.

With two more victories, Ashland's football program, which started in 1920, will have 500 wins all-time.
