College - In his senior season in track and field, Ackerman was first in the steepelchase at the Kenyon Invitational. He was the runner-up at the Ashland Alumni Meet. He posted a time of 9:56 to finish 12th at the GLIAc Championships. As a freshman, Ackerman ran 27:20 for the 8K (season best and a PR).  He competed in indoor track and field and posted times of 4:30 (mile) and 16:20 (5K).  Outdoors, he had a time of 4:22 in the 1500. As a sophomore he ran a best of 17:10 for 5000 meters. He was redshirted outdoors. In 2011-12, he debuted in the steeplechase. His best mark - 9:47.10 - came at the Wooster Invitational where he finished first.  Ackerman also reached personal bests in the 3000 (8:59) and 5000 (15:58.21).

High School - Ackerman was a three-time regional qualifier for cross country posting a personal record of 16:40.  He was a three-time district qualifier for track and a regional qualifier in the 4x8. He posted personal bests of 2:08 in the 800, 4:40 in the mile, and 10:00 (3200). He was first team all-conference in the two-mile.
