College - In 2012-13, Sussman finished eighth in the mile at the NCAA Indoor Championships. He earned All-America honors with that placement. Earlier in the meet, he anchored the distance medley relay to a seventh place finish. During the outdoor season, after a late start due to injury, Sussman registered a PR of 1:51.35 in the 800 meters. His freshman year Sussman ran a best of 26:52 (8K) at the GLIAC cross country championships. He finished 52nd. He finished third indoors and outdoors at the conference meet in the 800 meters with a best of 1:54.2. Sussman also placed seventh in the 1500 (3:56.33). As a sophomore, Sussman claimed the bronze medal in the 800 at the GLIAC Championships. His time was 1:53.74. He led off the distance medley relay that was seventh at the NCAA Championships.  That finish earned him All-America laurels. Outdoors, he ran a personal best of 1:52.92 in the 800 meters at the Georgia Tech Invite.  Sussman was fifth in the 1500 (3:53.99) and sixth in the 800 at the GLIAC Outdoor Championships. Sussman was named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team (GPA of 3.50 or higher) in 2011-12.

High School - In his first trip to the state meet as a junior at Wadsworth, he was the second leg (1:56) on the 4x800 relay which placed fifth.  As a senior, he qualified in three events. He led off the 4x800 relay (1:53.9) that placed first, breaking the Ohio state record with a time of 7:39.72. He finished seventh in the 1600 and third in the 4x400 relay.
