Eagles Score Eight Late Runs To Beat Tiffin, 11-4

The Ashland University baseball team bounced back from its first loss of the season with an 11-4 victory over Tiffin on Sunday (March 3) afternoon in Kissimmee, Fla.

The Eagles (4-1) trailed 4-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but scored five in the seventh and three in the eighth to win going away. Ashland banged out 13 hits on the day, led by senior Matt Littrell, who was 4-for-4 with two doubles, a walk and two RBI.

In the seventh, senior Sam Hawley tied the game with an RBI double that plated sophomore Austin Eifrid. Sophomore Logan Moss gave the Eagles a 5-4 lead with an RBI single and sophomore Micah Allen followed with his own RBI single. Littrell's two-run single pushed Ashland ahead, 8-4.

Sophomore Logan Stoldt delivered a two-run single in the eighth and eventually scored the Eagles' final run.

AU trailed 1-0 after the first inning, but tied it in the third on a sac fly by sophomore Dillan Smith.

Tiffin took a 4-1 lead with three runs in the fourth, but the Eagles got two back in the bottom half on a homer by junior Carson Mittermaier.

The Eagles got a solid start from junior right-hander Chance Hitchcock, who tossed six innings without walking a batter. He struck out nine and gave up four runs (three earned) on eight hits.

Freshman Max Frederick tossed 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win before junior lefty Josh Smith recorded the final out.

The Eagles will play Cedarville on Monday (March 4) at 3 p.m. as they continue their spring break trip in Florida.
