Another week, another pair of Ashland University student-athletes garnering Great Midwest Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honors – except that this week's honorees aren't just your garden-variety duo.
On Monday (Oct. 19) afternoon, sophomore wide receiver
D.J. Harvey (football offense) and junior
Mark Pillar (men's golf) were named the latest conference weekly honorees. And both are notable selections.
Harvey was lauded following a career day in the Eagles' 48-10 win at Thomas More on Saturday (Oct. 17) afternoon. He set new single-game career highs with nine catches for 202 yards, including an 87-yard tip-drill touchdown catch. It not only was Harvey's first 200-yard collegiate receiving game, it also was his first 100-yard collegiate receiving game.
He becomes the second member of his family to be named a football conference honoree as an Eagle, as his father,
Dawon Harvey, was selected as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference special teams Player of the Week nearly 18 years to the day, on Oct. 13, 2008.
Harvey, who has 30 catches for 507 yards and four TDs this season, and the Eagles (2-5 overall, 2-3 Great Midwest) will return to Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field on Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. to take on Kentucky Wesleyan (0-7, 0-5). This will be AU's Youth Day / 1986 Ashland College football team recognition game.
For Pillar, this is second career Great Midwest weekly award – making him just the fourth Eagle to accomplish the feat.
At Findlay's Doc Spragg Invitational on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 12-13), Pillar finished in a tie for seventh place individually after carding 69-73-71—213. His tournament ended with an eagle and 12 birdies. Pillar helped AU's men to finish in a tie for fourth at 282-296-286—864.
Ashland's men are playing at the fall 2026 non-championship season-ending Intercollegiate at Nemacolin in Farmington, Pa., and will finish the three-day event on Wednesday (Oct. 21).
