No. 9 Eagles Lose To No. 8 Bearcats In Home Dual On Tie-Breaker

In a Saturday (Jan. 17) night dual worthy of two top-10 teams in NCAA Division II, the No. 9-ranked Ashland University wrestling team tied No. 8 McKendree, 21-21, at Kates Gymnasium, but lost on the third tiebreaker criteria.
 
The Eagles, who lost 60-58 on most non-pin/default/injury default/disqualification points, are 5-6 in duals in 2025-26. The Bearcats are 7-5.
 
Ashland received early victories from sophomore Donovan Paes at 133 pounds (pin in 6:05 over Giovanni Diaz) and No. 3-ranked junior 149-pounder Hayden Kuhn (18-3 technical fall over Logan Rathjen), but McKendree led 17-11 through the 165-pound match.
 
At 174 pounds, No. 2-ranked Sevriano Garza knocked off Brice Henry, 5-3. Then, trailing 21-14, No. 8-ranked 197-pound junior Peyton Lemon took a 7-4 decision from No. 5-ranked Logan Kvien. No. 7-ranked senior Wyatt Bailey came close to the tech fall the Eagles needed at 285 pounds, but earned a 19-5 major decision over Casey Olszowka to send the dual into criteria.
