No. 16 Eagle Wrestlers Rout Storm, KWC To Open League Schedule

On Sunday (Jan. 12) at Kentucky Wesleyan, the No. 16-ranked Ashland University wrestling team improved to 6-1 in the 2024-25 dual schedule – and served notice that it is ready for the upcoming 2025 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships.

The Eagles defeated both No. 13 Lake Erie (41-3) and the host Panthers (55-0) on Sunday in their first league duals of the season, as they look for their fourth Great Midwest title in five years in less than two weeks (Jan. 25 at Findlay).

Ashland's leadoff hitter, sophomore 125-pounder Luke Acuna, earned an 8-6 win and 9-0 major decision to improve to 17-6 this season. At 141 pounds, freshman Brock Durbin, ranked No. 15 in NCAA Division II, won by pin in four minutes and a 13-4 major decision to move to 19-10 and a tie for the team lead in victories.

Two non-forfeit wins each also were recorded by No. 13-ranked sophomore Peyton Lemon at 184 pounds (14-4 major decision and pin in 59 seconds, now 17-6) and No. 9-ranked senior Kaine Morris at 197 pounds (pin in 33 seconds and 15-0 technical fall, now 19-7).
