Ashland University's women's tennis team matched its win total of 2021-22 on Saturday (April 1) after a 6-1 Great Midwest Athletic Conference win at Cedarville.
The Eagles improve to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the Great Midwest, while the Yellow Jackets move to 8-7, 2-2.
Also on Saturday night, the Ashland men took a 7-0 road decision from Cedarville for a third consecutive victory. The Eagle men are 8-6, 2-1, and the Yellow Jacket men are 10-6, 1-2.
Both teams have clinched a spot in the 2023 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament, April 20-22 at Kentucky Wesleyan.
NOTABLES
- Ashland earned the doubles point by taking all three matches – freshmen Constanza Arancibia and Ana Penteado at No. 1 (6-2), sophomores Claudia Adcock and Kortney Reed at No. 2 (6-0), and freshmen Anna Corbel and Alley Stoehr at No. 3 (7-5).
- The Eagles took five of six singles matches, as well – Penteado at No. 1 (6-2, 7-6 (7-4)), Adcock at No. 2 (6-1, 6-1), Corbel at No. 3 (6-4, 2-6, 6-3), Arancibia at No. 4 (6-1, 6-1), and Reed at No. 5 (6-3, 6-3).
- On the men's side, all three doubles matches also went Ashland's way - sophomore William Rassat and freshman Tomas Paskauskas at No. 1 (6-3), sophomore Fabian Bussard and freshman Rodrigo Moura Ludgero at No. 2 (6-3), and freshmen Benedikt Weinboerner and Gabriel Seminario at No. 3 (7-6 (7-4)).
- The Eagle men also won all six singles matches - Rassat at No. 1 (6-0, 6-1), Bussard at No. 2 (6-2, 6-2), Paskauskas at No. 3 (6-7 (7-9), 6-0, 1-0 (10-7)), Ludgero at No. 4 (6-1, 6-4), sophomore Omar Prince at No. 5 (6-2, 6-4), and Weinboerner at No. 6 (3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3)).
