Finishing with a tie for the best team round so far in 2022-23, Ashland University's men's golf team began the 2023 spring championship on Thursday (March 9) by leading the nine-team Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff in Wesley Chapel, Fla.
The Eagles' round of 283 is tied for the team's lowest mark so far this season, and tied for the fifth-best round in the program since 1996-97. Ashland is four strokes ahead of second-place Gannon (287), and 11 strokes better than third-place St. Thomas, Fla. (294) through 18 holes.
Individually, freshman
Carter Mishler and sophomore
Matthew McMullen are tied for second place with a 1-under-par 69 – one shot behind St. Thomas' Kade Cannon. Mishler ended Thursday with five birdies, and McMullen four.
NOTABLES
- Senior Logan Thomas is tied for fourth after a 1-over 71, and he finished the day with six birdies. Freshman Dylan Dunn was next with a 74, two birdies and in a tie for 13th. Dunn's round was tied for his collegiate low.
- Sophomore Tyler Gillespie carded a 75 (tied for 15th) and had one birdie, and senior Andrew Kolar (tied for 18th) had a 76 and ended the day with three birdies.
