On Saturday (March 11) in the third and final round of the Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff in Wesley Chapel, Fla., Ashland University's men's golf team didn't just earn team medalist honors in the nine-team event, it did so going away.
The Eagles won the 54-hole tournament by 12 strokes thanks to a three-day score of 283-298-292—873. McKendree was second at 300-290-295—885, and Gannon finished third at 287-306-295—888.
Sophomore
Matthew McMullen was Ashland's individual leader all week long, finishing in second place at 69-70-73—212. That tied him for the second-lowest 54-hole total in the program since 1996-97. On Saturday, he birdied hole No. 2.
Freshman
Carter Mishler also finished in the top five, as his 69-79-74—222 was good for a tie for fifth. He had three birdies on Saturday.
NOTABLES
- Freshman Dylan Dunn tied for ninth on the week (74-74-76—224), and had three Saturday birdies, while senior Andrew Kolar shot up the individual leaderboard and finished 17th at 76-79-73—228 (five Saturday birdies).
- Senior Logan Thomas placed 18th (71-75-83—229), and sophomore Tyler Gillespie moved up to 26th to finish the event (75-88-72—235).
- Individual medalist honors went to Kade Cannon of St. Thomas, Fla. (68-71-72—211).
