In the third and final round of Grand Valley State's Arendsen Invitational on Monday (Sept. 5), Ashland University's men's golf team fired a 292 and moved into fourth place to end the 54-hole event.
The Eagles' third-round score was the second-lowest of the day, and they ended at 301-303—292—896. The host Lakers won the event at 285-285-278—848, followed by Findlay (295-286-295—876) and Northwood (299-298-296—893).
WHAT HAPPENED
- Senior Andrew Kolar, who entered 2022-23 with the best career scoring average in the program since 1996-97, did nothing to hurt that average by finishing 71-79-71-221 and in a tie for 12th place individually. Kolar had two birdies on Monday.
- Right behind was another senior, Logan Thomas, tied for 14th place at 74-75-73—222, and he had four birdies in a seven-hole stretch on the back nine on Monday.
- Freshman Carter Mishler's first collegiate tournament ended in a tie for 24th (77-75-74—226) and with third birdies on Monday. Another rookie, Dylan Dunn, tied for 43rd at 81-76-74—231, and he had five birdies in the last round, and sophomore Matthew McMullen was tied for 45th at 79-77-76—232, and had three Monday birdies.
- Individual Eagles on the weekend were sophomore Tyler Gillespie (tied for 51st, 78-79-77—234, one Monday birdie) and senior Nick Stehle (82-withdrew).
UP NEXT
Ashland's men's second fall tournament will be Sept. 12-13 at the Malone-Glenmoor Fall Invitational in Canton.
