Eagle Men Start New Season Tied For Fifth After 36 Holes At GVSU

Ashland University's men's golf team played 36 holes on Sunday (Sept. 4) at Grand Valley State's Arendsen Invitational, finishing Day 1 in a tie for fifth place in the 12-team field.
 
The Eagles ended the day at 301-303—604. The host Lakers are leading the field at 285-285—570, followed by Findlay (295-286—581) and Northwood (299-298—597).
 
WHAT HAPPENED
  • Senior Logan Thomas is the Eagles' pacesetter after two rounds, and is sitting in a tie for 15th place individually at 74-75—149. He had two birdies on the day.
  • Another senior, Andrew Kolar, tied for 19th at 71-79—150, and had four birdies, all in the first round.
  • Ashland's youngsters in the starting lineup on Sunday were freshman Carter Mishler (tied for 26th, 77-75—152, four birdies), sophomore Matthew McMullen (tied for 48th, 79-77—156, three birdies), and freshman Dylan Dunn (tied for 53rd, 81-76—157, two birdies).
  • Playing as individuals for AU were sophomore Tyler Gillespie (tied for 53rd, 78-79—157, six birdies) and senior Nick Stehle (82-withdrew).
 
UP NEXT
Ashland's men will play the second and final day of the GVSU Arendsen Invitational on Monday (Sept. 5).
