On Monday (Oct. 10), in the second and final round of the Motor City/Frank Jawor Invite hosted by Wayne State, Ashland University's men's golf team turned in a 28-stroke improvement to move up to a sixth-place finish in the 11-team field.
WHAT HAPPENED
- The Eagle men went from a team score of 321 on Sunday (Oct. 9) to a 293 on Monday, and finished at 614. Grand Valley State was the team medalist (296-295—591), the host Warriors were second (303-290—593) and Ferris State was third (307-288—595).
- Freshman Carter Mishler shot up the individual leaderboard and finished in a tie for 12th at 78-72—150. Mishler had four birdies in a six-hole stretch from holes No. 13-18 on Monday.
- Sophomore Tyler Gillespie tied for 20th at 78-75—153, and had one Monday birdie, while senior Logan Thomas ascended up the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 25th at 83-73—156 (three Monday birdies).
- Senior Andrew Kolar tied for 29th at 84-73—157 (two Monday birdies), and sophomore Matthew McMullen tied for 42nd at 82-79—161 (three Monday birdies). Playing as an individual was senior Nick Stehle (tied for 38th, 81-79—160, two Monday birdies).
- GVSU's Charles Delong won the event at 1-under par 71-72—143.
