Eagles Stumble at Walsh, 3-0

ASHLAND, Ohio – The AU men's soccer team is facing a heavy measure of adversity at this point in the season and is looking for the point where it can turn the adversity into fortune.

On Sunday (Sept. 18) afternoon, the Eagles were dispatched by Walsh, 3-0, in North Canton, Ohio. AU was out-shot, 14-6, in the game and managed just one shot on goal.

Ben Truax scored the first of his two goals in the 13th minute after Chris Lynch flicked the ball down to him.

The Cavaliers (4-1) held that lead deep into the second half until Truax added another goal in a one-on-one with AU keeper Justin Nolan (Medina, Ohio/Highland) in the 82nd minute.

Walsh removed any doubt in the 88th minute as Juan Amaya finished his first goal of the season.

Nolan stopped six shots in the game and Mike Kelley needed to make just one – off the foot of senior J.P. Lytle (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster/Valparaiso) – for the Cavaliers to preserve the shutout.

The Eagles (2-4-1) have dropped three straight games and will look to rebound in Erie, Pa. on Friday (Sept. 23) when they play Gannon in nonconference action. After that, the Eagles play No. 5 Mercyhurst on Sept. 25.
