Box Score ASHLAND, Ohio – In one of the toughest environments to play in Division II, the visiting Eagles fell behind early and No. 8 Michigan Tech capitalized with a 68-50 win on Thursday (Feb. 19) night at SDC Gym.
It was the 25th straight home win for the Huskies (20-2, 15-1), who clinched the GLIAC regular season title and the chance to host the GLIAC Final Four in two weeks.
The Huskies started the game with a 14-3 run and cruised the rest of the way for the win, their eighth straight.
Sophomore forward Daiva Gerbec (Dublin, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) paced the Eagles (15-8, 10-6 GLIAC) with 13 points, six rebounds and three blocks. Freshman forward Mikaela Lengal (Brunswick, Ohio) added 12 points off the bench for Ashland, which was limited to just 16 field goals on 34 percent shooting from the floor.
Lindsey Lindstrom led all scorers with 17 points to go along with six rebounds. Sam Hoyt finished with 13 points and five assists, while Lucy Durnovsek added nine points and a game-high eight rebounds.
The Huskies won the battle on the boards, 41-32, and shot 43.9 percent from the field.
AU leads the country in free throw percentage and helped that figure by shooting 81 percent (17-for-21) from the stripe.
The Eagles continue their swing through the Upper Peninsula on Saturday (Feb. 19) with a 3 p.m. tip-off at Northern Michigan, which beat Lake Erie on Thursday.
