Women's Basketball Falls at Akron, 68-49

The Ashland University women's basketball team lost at Akron Saturday (Nov. 6), 68-49 in preseason game.

The Eagles were behind, 35-18 at halftime.  Ashland had 25 turnovers against the Division I outfit. In the first half, AU shot 33.3 percent (eight-of-24) from the floor.  The Eagles were outrebounded, 49-37.

Most of AU's offense came from sophomore center Daiva Gerbec (Dublin, Ohio/Bishop Watterson).  She provided 14 points. Senior guard Rachel Poorman (Zanesville, Ohio/Maysville) fired in 11 points and had six rebounds.  Beth Mantkowski (Fairlawn, Ohio/Copley) also yanked down six missed shots.

Rachel Tecca had 18 points for the Zips and Carly Young had 13 points.  Both Tecc and Young had eight rebounds.  Akron was led on the glass by Kara Murphy, who had nine boards.
