Nick Hall Places Second, Earns A Spot At Nationals

Ashland University senior men's cross country runner Nick Hall has punched his ticket to the Division II national meet in St. Leo, Fla., which takes place on Nov. 19.

Hall was runner-up at the Midwest Regional meet in Evansville, Ind. on Saturday (Nov. 5), running the 10K race in 30:23. The top three runners not on nationals-qualifying teams in the 219-man race earned a spot in the national meet.

"It came down to belief in my work ethic, and above all, patience," Hall said.

Hall finished sixth at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship meet on Oct. 22, earning himself first-team all-conference honors.

"I'd rather get punched in October than knocked out in November," Hall said. "I'm peaking at the right time, and I'm excited to represent Ashland University in Florida in two weeks."

As a team, the AU men placed 10th of 31 teams with a score of 251. In order to make nationals, the men would have had to score less than 139 to beat fifth-place Lewis.

Sophomore Steven Kapes (52nd) and seniors Aubrey Jordan (53rd), Zach Humrichouser (60th), Tommy Menyes and Jonathan Albaugh (98th) were the Eagle runners who finished in the top 100.

The Ashland women had a 717 score in its 6K meet, finishing 24th of 32. Sophomore Emily Schumaker was the top Eagle runner, finishing 98th of 221 runners with a time of 23:06.

UP NEXT: Hall will compete at nationals in St. Leo, Fla., on Nov. 19.
