Eagles Win Sixth Straight, Cruise To Sweep of Parkside

The Ashland University volleyball team cruised to a 25-16, 25-16, 25-17, sweep over visiting Parkside on Friday (Oct. 26) night at Kates Gymnasium. The Eagles also celebrated Senior Night, honoring the three seniors on the squad.

It was the Eagles' first match at home since Sept. 29 after playing the last eight matches away from their home floor. Ashland has now won six straight, including the last four by sweeps.

The Eagles (22-5, 12-2 GLIAC) were solid defensively on Friday, holding the Rangers (7-18, 4-9 GLIAC) to a .058 hitting percentage.

Junior Sophi Cudworth led the Eagles with 11 kills (.318) and had a team-high four blocks. Freshman Erin Krupar managed a double-double with 10 kills (.240) and had a team-high 13 digs. Freshman setter Zoey Peck also posted a double-double with 34 assists and 12 digs.

Senior Reanne Neal continued her excellent run of play with eight kills (.421) without an error. She has hit at least .333 in each of the last five matches. Junior Shelby Woycik added six kills (.038). Senior libero Kaitlin Bean also had 12 digs.

The Rangers, who came into the match tied with Ashland in blocks per set, led the Eagles in that category, 8-7.

Lexie Calloway paced Parkside with nine kills and nine digs. Ann Leo led all players with 14 digs.

Prior to the match, the Eagles recognized Neal, Bean and middle hitter Michaela Ping, who have each spent four seasons in the AU volleyball program.

The Eagles will aim for their seventh straight win on Saturday (Oct. 27) when they play host to Purdue Northwest for a 2 p.m. start at Kates Gymnasium.
