The Ashland University volleyball team has a full weekend in front of it. After hosting Tiffin on Friday (Nov. 4) at Kates Gymnasium, the Eagles welcome Ohio Dominican to town on Saturday (Nov. 5) and visit Lake Erie on Sunday (Nov. 6). A weekend like that can bring a lot of wear and tear to the body and the mind.
Maybe that was part of the thought process of the Eagles on Friday as they took just 58 minutes to sweep Tiffin, 3-0.
The Eagles (12-12/10-7 GLIAC) won, 25-14, 25-17, 25-19. This was AU's second win this season over the Dragons (6-21/5-13). Back on Sept. 23 at Tiffin, the Eagles were a 3-1 winner.
Freshman Kathy Fletcher (West Chicago, Ill./Community) gave AU a strong all-around performance with 12 kills, four digs, two service aces and a .357 hitting percentage. Junior setter Crystal Elliott (Canal Winchester, Ohio) had 30 assists and 10 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Kate Eckels (Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) and freshman middle blocker/outside hitter Alyx Crislip (Louisville, Ohio) had seven kills apiece.
This is the final weekend of the regular season. Friday's victory keeps the Eagles in play for a first round GLIAC Tournament home contest.
The AU-ODU match will begin at 6 p.m., on Saturday. Prior to the start the two seniors on this year's team – Anesia Benton (Lima, Ohio/Lima Senior) and Arian Martin (Independence, Ohio) - will be recognized.
