Ashland University women's tennis lost, 8-1, at Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (Oct. 7) despite an impressive doubles showing from freshmen Sofie Garpered and Hazuki Ogino.

Garpered and Ogino defeated junior Shea Donahue and freshman Taylor McLaughlin for their second victory as a pair this season.

The doubles win was not enough for the Eagles (3-5, 1-5 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) to gain momentum over the Cardinals (5-2, 5-1) heading into singles, and AU lost its fourth straight match.

"This weekend will give us a lot of motivation for next weekend's matches at home," Ashland senior Elizabeth Kidd said.

The Eagles return to Ashland to face Grand Valley State on Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. and Ferris State on Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. for their final home matches of the fall season.

"We will continue to compete hard at practice in order to execute," Kidd said.
