Eagles Stay At No. 5 In Regional Rankings

For the third consecutive week the Ashland University women's soccer team is ranked No. 5 in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional rankings released on Wednesday (Nov. 1) afternoon.

There was no change in the top five of the rankings for the second straight week. The top six teams in the region will earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament with automatic qualification going to the champions of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Tournaments.

This was the final installment of the regional rankings as the final NCAA Tournament field will be announced on Monday (Nov. 6) at 6 p.m. on the NCAA.com Selection Show.

The Eagles (12-5-1) earned a 5-1 win over Tiffin last Friday (Oct. 27) since the last regional ranking's release. Tuesday's 3-0 triumph over Northern Michigan in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal is not reflected in today's rankings release.

Ashland was seeded No. 2 in the GLIAC Tournament and will play No. 6-seed Saginaw Valley State on Friday (Nov. 3) at 7:30 p.m. in Allendale, Mich. The winner will advance to the conference tournament championship game. Host No. 1 Grand Valley State and No. 4-seed Tiffin will play in the first semifinal.

The Eagles are looking to reach their first NCAA Tournament since 2004 with they advanced to the national quarterfinal.
