Ashland University senior forward Morgan Bittengle was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week the league office announced Tuesday (Oct. 3) morning.
Bittengle scored three goals in three games last week, including two game-winners to help lead the Eagles to a 3-0 record.
She is the first AU player to win GLIAC offensive weekly honors since Deijah Swihart was the choice on Oct. 11, 2016. It is Bittengle's second career weekly award (Oct. 7, 2014) and her first since she was a freshman.
Bittengle, who ranks third on AU's all-time scoring list with 40 career goals, scored the opening goal of a 2-1 win over Notre Dame (Ohio) last Tuesday (Sept. 26) at Ferguson Field. Senior Kelsey McKernan had the assist on the play as Bittengle headed in a corner kick.
On Friday, Bittengle scored an overtime game-winner as the Eagles knocked off host Davenport, 3-2. She drove home the golden goal in the 96th minute off a pass from sophomore Korinna Lakes.
Bittengle's goal on Sunday opened the scoring in a 4-0 rout of Purdue Northwest. McKernan had the first of her three assists on the play. She finished with five assists last week, climbing to fifth on Ashland's all-time assist list.
The Eagles (6-3-1, 3-0 GLIAC) have won four straight games and will play host to No. 5 Grand Valley State on Friday (Oct. 6) at 4:30 p.m. at Ferguson Field.
