Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer head coaches expect an encore from Ashland University, as the Eagles were picked to finish second in the conference in the 2017 GLIAC Preseason Poll, released on Monday (Aug. 7) morning.

Ashland was the 2016 GLIAC regular-season runner-up (best GLIAC regular-season finish since 2005), ending the season at 10-3-4 overall and 7-2-2 in the league. In the 2017 preseason poll, the Eagles earned 73 total voting points and one first-place vote – trailing only conference favorite Grand Valley State (81 voting points, nine first-place votes).

Entering 2017, Ashland has won 10 or more games and qualified for the GLIAC Tournament in each of the last four seasons. Top returning players for the Eagles include junior forward Deijah Swihart, a 2016 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) second-team All-Midwest Region and All-GLIAC first-teamer, and senior defender Julie Lacock, a 2016 All-GLIAC second-team selection.

Ashland will begin the 2017 season on Aug. 31 at 4 p.m. at Ferguson Field against Truman.
