Ashland Stays At No. 11 In D-II, Four Eagles Ranked Nationally


The Ashland University wrestling team remains at No. 11 in the country in the Division II Wrestling Coaches Association's first regular-season poll, released Monday (Dec. 12) night.

The Eagles received 31 voting points in this poll, nine more than they received in the preseason poll, released on Oct. 28.

Redshirt senior Michael Labry moved up to No. 1 in the 133-pound weight class. Labry's record is 16-1 this season, with eight of his wins coming against Division I competition. He earned first place at the Ohio Intercollegiates on Nov. 13 and at the Findlay Open on Nov. 19.

Redshirt senior Brent Fickel also is No. 1 at 149 pounds, three spots higher than he was in the preseason poll. Fickel is 8-3 this season. He is 4-0 against D-II competition, and he finished fifth at the Ohio Intercollegiates.

Newly-ranked AU wrestlers are sophomore Colton Ullman (seventh at 157) and Luke Cramer (12th at 197).

UP NEXT: The next ranking will be published during the first week of the New Year. The Eagles will have one chance to try to improve on their rankings before that date, as they'll be in Indianapolis, Ind., on Saturday (Dec. 17) and Sunday (Dec. 18) for the Midwest Classic.
