No. 11 Ashland Drops Dual Meet At No. 3 UPJ


The No. 11-ranked Ashland University wrestling team lost its first dual meet of the season, 24-16, at No. 3 Pitt-Johnstown on Friday (Dec. 2) night.

Reigning victorious for the Eagles were senior Michael Labry (ranked No. 1 regionally at 133 pounds), sophomore Chandler Minnard (No. 4 at 141), senior Brent Fickel (No. 1 at 149) and junior Luke Cramer (No. 4 at 197). Labry won in a major decision, Minnard and Fickel won by decision, and Cramer won by fall.

AU earned a No. 4 regional tournament strength ranking and No. 1 dual meet regional ranking earlier in the week on Eight of its wrestlers also earned regional rankings - Labry, Minnard, Fickel, Cramer, sophomore Sebastian Vidika (fourth at 125), sophomore Colton Ullman (first at 157), redshirt freshman Bret Romanzak (seventh at 165) and senior Brenden Stanley (eighth at 174).

UP NEXT: The Eagles will travel to West Liberty on Sunday (Dec. 4) afternoon to take on the Hilltoppers and East Stroudsburg.
