Eagles Move To 16th In National Poll

The Ashland University wrestling team is ranked 16th in this week's NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association poll. This is AU's highest ranking of the season.

Sophomore Joe Brandt (Versailles, Ohio) is ranked third in the country at 197 pounds. Brandt is 20-2.

Freshman Michael Labry (Twinsburg, Ohio) is ranked fourth at 133 pounds for the second consecutive week. Labry is 21-0 this season.

At 125 pounds, sophomore Max Byrd (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) is 15-3 and ranked eighth in the country. This is the first time Byrd has been nationally ranked.

Ashland's next match is Friday (Jan. 18, 7 p.m.) against 11th-ranked Pitt-Johnstown.

St. Cloud State is ranked first this week. The school was fourth in the last poll. The Huskies won the NCAA Division II National Duals last week and received all eight first place votes in the poll.

Notre Dame is second and Central Oklahoma is third. Nebraska-Kearney, ranked first in last week's poll, tumbled into a tie for 13th in the poll.
