The Ashland University wrestling team's 2012-13 recruiting class has been ranked second in the country among NCAA Division II schools by Wrestling USA magazine.

The magazine listed Notre Dame College as having the top list of recruits.  Grand Canyon was third, St. Cloud State was fourth and Newman was ranked fifth.

AU finished 13th a year ago at the NCAA Championships. Four AU wrestlers were recognized as All-Americans. The Eagles had a 12-3 record in dual meet action last season.

"It's always good to be mentioned highly in the rankings," said fifth-year head coach Tim Dernlan. "It's a good indicator of the hard work Marcus Gordon has put in along with the rest of our staff. It's neat that people see the type of wrestlers we're bringing in. That's based on athletic performance, but we're excited we're bringing in quality people. If you could rank academics and community service along with wrestling it would be one of the best classes we've brought in.

The Eagles open the 2012-13 season on Nov. 3 at the Eastern Michigan Open.
