The Ashland University wrestling team brought home one silver medal Monday (Dec. 19) at the Midwest Classic. That second place finish belonged to senior Marc Hoff (Liberty Center, Ohio), who was competing at 149 pounds.
Hoff lost to Jake Strausbaugh of Wabash, 8-2 in the title bout.
At 165 pounds, senior Tommie Graszl (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison) finished fourth. In the consolation finals, Graszl dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to Mark Vandermeer of Lake Erie.
The Eagles finished 13th in the team standings with 55 points. Newberry, the nation's top-ranked NCAA Division II team, won the team trophy with 117 points. Upper Iowa, ranked second in the country, was second with 115.5 points. Findlay, ranked 17th in the latest rankings, was third with 84.5 points. West Liberty (77) was fourth and Northern State (75) was fifth.
Ashland is ranked 10th in the country.
The Eagles are idle until they host Gannon on Friday, Jan. 6, at 7 p.m. That is the first home dual meet of the season and it is also Youth Night.
