Krystal Hu is going to nationals for the first time.
Ashland University's sophomore women's golfer finished in third place among players not on one of the top three teams at the 2018 NCAA Division II East Regional at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich. That qualifies Hu for a spot at the 2018 NCAA Division II Championships, May 16-19 at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas.
On the third and final day of the regional on Wednesday (May 9), Hu ended with a round of 76, finishing at 74-75-76—225, and in 10th place overall individually. She had birdies on holes No. 3 and 12 on Wednesday.
Hu joins Ali Green (2016) and Erin Misheff (2012) as Ashland women's golfers who have qualified for nationals as individuals.
As a team, Ashland placed fifth in the 12-team field. The Eagles ended at 309-317-317—943. Indianapolis rallied on the final day to win the team title (292-292-298—882), followed by Grand Valley State (289-292-306—887), Missouri-St. Louis (305-308-300—913), Findlay (316-313-312—941), and the Eagles.
