Ashland University's women's basketball team will head into its home NCAA Division II Midwest Regional as the unanimous No. 1 team in the country.

The final regular-season Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top 25 Coaches' Poll has the 31-0 Eagles as the top team in Division II for the 12th poll in a row, and the unanimous top team for the sixth week in a row. Ashland is the only undefeated women's or men's basketball team in Division II.

With Sunday's (March 5) 85-76 win over Grand Valley State at home in the 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, Ashland became the first GLIAC women's basketball program to win both four regular-season and four tournament championships in a six-year period. Earlier in 2016-17, the Eagles became the first GLIAC women's basketball team to finish a regular conference schedule at 20-0, and their 28-0 regular season was the first in the 50 seasons of the program.

Ashland now has been the No. 1 team in the WBCA Division II poll 25 times, and the current streak of 12 polls in a row ties the program's longest mark, set in 2012-13. The Eagles are 46-1 (.979) all-time when playing as the No. 1 team in the country.

Since 1995-96, Ashland has been ranked in the WBCA poll 68 times, has been in the Top 10 in the poll 52 times and has been in the Top 5 on 44 occasions. This is the 33rd consecutive poll in which the Eagles have appeared.

Ashland will play host to its fourth Midwest Regional in the last six years at Kates Gymnasium, beginning on Friday (March 10) at 5 p.m. vs. Malone (23-6). Information on the tournament, including ticket information, can be found at the tournament page, http://goashlandeagles.com/tournaments/wbkb/2016-17/index.
