Ashland Women No. 1 In Division II For Fourth Straight Poll

For the fourth consecutive time, Ashland University's women's basketball team is the top-ranked team in the country in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll, the latest edition of which was released on Tuesday (Jan. 10) afternoon.

The Eagles (16-0 overall, 8-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) received 22 of 24 first-place votes in the latest poll. They received 20 first-place votes on Dec. 13, 21 on Dec. 21 and 22 on Jan. 3.

This is the 17th time Ashland has been the No. 1-ranked team in the WBCA poll. The Eagles are 31-1 all-time when playing as the top team in the country.

Tuesday marks the 60th time Ashland has been in the Top 25 poll, all since the 1995-96 season. It is the 44th time the Eagles have been in the Top 10, and the 36th time they have been in the Top 5. It is the 25th straight poll in which AU has appeared.

Ashland is one of five undefeated teams in Division II, and one of two GLIAC teams in this week's poll, along with Grand Valley State (No. 21).

Through Jan. 8, the Eagles are tops in Division II in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.78-to-1), assists per game (25.1), field-goal percentage (50.8) and scoring margin per game (34.9). Ashland is second in the country in scoring offense per game (94.8), third in steals per game (15.3) and fourth in turnover margin per game (10.75).

Ashland will begin GLIAC South Division play on Thursday (Jan. 12) at 5:30 p.m. at Kates Gymnasium against Ohio Dominican (10-5, 5-3). It is a matchup of the top two teams in the South through the first four weeks of league play.

2016-17 WBCA TOP 25 POLL RANKINGS: No. 5 (preseason), No. 3 (Nov. 22), No. 2 (Nov. 29 and Dec. 6), No. 1 (Dec. 13, Dec. 21, Jan. 3 and Jan. 10).
