Women's Basketball Moves Up to Fifth in Poll
The Ashland University women's basketball team is ranked fifth in this week's USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 poll. This is the highest the Eagles have ever been ranked.
AU was sixth a week ago. Ashland is 20-1 and has won a school record 20 consecutive games. The Eagles have two games this week, both on the road. On Thursday (Feb. 9, 6 p.m.), AU visits Grand Valley State. Saturday (Feb. 11, 1 p.m.), the Eagles play at Ferris State. The Bulldogs are ranked 25th in this week's poll with a 15-4 record.
Of all the teams in the top 25, only top-ranked Cal-San Diego (22-0) and second-ranked Edinboro (20-0) have fewer losses than the Eagles. Ashland is only five points behind Clayton State, which is ranked fourth. Clayton State won the NCAA Division II national championship last season.
AU is looking for the third NCAA postseason berth in school history. All of AU's NCAA Division II appearances have come with Sue Ramsey as the head coach. Ashland's last trip to the NCAA postseason came in 2005-06.
