A big throw deserves a big award, and Ashland University junior Megan Tomei has both.
After recording the second-best women's shot put distance of the 2015-16 NCAA Division II season on Friday (Feb. 19) at the Ohio State Tune-Up, Tomei is the latest Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
Tomei's mark of 16.00 meters/52-feet-6 was good for second at OSU, and it also is the second-best mark in both the country and the GLIAC this winter to teammate Jamie Sindelar.
That mark also earned Tomei automatic qualification for the 2016 NCAA Division II indoor national championships, March 11-12 in Pittsburg, Kan.
AU's men's and women's indoor track and field teams will compete at the 2016 GLIAC Championships on Saturday (Feb. 27) and Sunday (Feb. 28).
