Three From AU Track Earn GLIAC Awards

Three members of the Ashland University track and field program have been received weekly awards from the GLIAC. The conference office made the announcement today (Feb. 18).

Junior Drew Windle is the men's track athlete of the week. Windle won the 800 meters at Grand Valley State last week in 1:46.52. That's the fastest time in the country by an NCAA Division II runner this season and it is the fastest time ever recorded by a Division II student-athlete, regardless of track size. Windle is the ninth fastest performer in comprehensive indoor and outdoor history in Division II.

Windle also ran on the 4X4 relay that finished in 3:13.78 at Grand Valley State. That is the top time in the nation (NCAA Division II) and is an automatic qualification for nationals. Windle is also the NCAA Division II national track athlete of the week.

Senior Donald Duke is the men's field athlete of the week. Duke was second in the shot put at Grand Valley State. His best effort measured 62-7.75. That puts him second on the national list and it is an automatic qualifier for nationals.

Junior Jessica Bridenthal is this week's female field athlete of the week. Bridenthal placed first in the weight throw at Grand Valley State's Big Meet. Her winning throw was 67-8.25. That's the best mark in the country (NCAA Division II) and wraps up a spot for her at nationals.

Bridenthal also competed in the shot put at GVSU and threw 50-6.25. That is also an automatic qualifier for nationals and it puts Bridenthal third on the rankings list.

The fourth week of USTFCCCA national rankings were unveiled on Tuesday. The AU men are ranked third in the country and the Ashland women are fourth. Those are the same positions both teams occupied last week. The Top 10 teams in both polls can be found below.
