AU Throwers On Center Stage At Big Meet

Ashland University throwers carried the day for the Purple and Gold on Saturday (Feb. 15) at Grand Valley State's Big Meet.

In the women's shot put, Megan Tomei finished first with a throw of 47-4.25. That's a provisional mark for nationals. Jamie Sindelar finished as the runner-up with a provisional mark of 47-0.25.

Jessica Bridenthal led the field in the women's weight throw. Her winning effort - 67- 8.25- is an automatic qualifier for nationals. Kim Habegger was second (64-6.50), Cynthia Watt was fourth (60-10.75) and Tomei was fifth (59-1.25). Habegger, Watt and Toemi made the provisional list.

Jared Conklin placed first (62-10) in the men's weight throw.  Kyle Steinhauser was third (57-7). Both are on the NCAA provisional list with those throws.

A total of 1,663 athletes competed at GVSU on Friday and Saturday.
