Eagles Split Doubleheader With Lewis, Now 5-1 In Florida

Ashland University's softball team split a doubleheader on Tuesday (March 3) with Lewis, winning 6-0 and losing 7-5, in Clermont, Fla.

The opener belonged to Eagle seniors Taylor Menhart and Amber McDermott. Menhart was 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs, while McDermott authored a two-hit shutout with a walk and six strikeouts.

Also rapping two of Ashland's nine hits were sophomore Kalene Freshour and senior Jerrica Young.

In Game 2, the Eagles were done in by five errors which resulted in three Lewis unearned runs. Menhart, Freshour, Young and junior Bri Buckley each had two of Ashland's 11 hits in the loss, and Freshour drove in two runs.

The Eagles will be back on the field in Clermont on Thursday (March 5) with two games against Mary (1 p.m.) and Post (3 p.m.)
