Ashland University senior pitcher Emlyn Knerem (Brunswick, Ohio) was named this week's GLIAC pitcher of the week on Tuesday. On Wednesday, she was honored as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association National Pitcher of the Week.
Knerem went 7-0 with a save on AU's spring trip to Florida. On the year, Knerem is 10-0. During the trip to Florida, the right-hander hurled three shutouts, including a five-hit gem against nationally-ranked C.W. Post. Against Edinboro, Knerem came in out of the bullpen and faced nine batters. She whiffed all nine. Hitters managed a .174 batting average against Knerem on the spring trip.
Knerem went 26-9 last season with a 1.70 ERA. She had 13 shutouts and had 296 strikeouts in 226.2 innings. With Knerem as the ace of the staff, AU has advanced to the NCAA playoffs each of the last three seasons.
The Eagles (12-4) return to the diamond on Thursday (Mar. 15) when they play at Urbana.
