Sophomore midfielder Thomas Ardron was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week the league office announced Monday (Oct. 9) afternoon.
Ardron is the first GLIAC weekly award winner since former goalkeeper Justin Nolan was named the conference's athlete of the week on Oct. 17, 2011.
The Poulton-le-Fylde, England native scored two highlight-reel goals, including the overtime game-winner, to lead the Eagles to a 3-2 win over Davenport at Ferguson Field on Sunday.
In the 50th minute Ardron received a pass, took a touch and unleashed an arcing chip shot over the head of the DU keeper and into the right side of the net to give AU a 1-0 lead.
In the fifth minute of overtime, it was Ardron who provided the heroics. After freshman Justin Libertowski won a free kick just outside the box, Ardron stepped over a 20-yard free kick. He delivered a shot over the Davenport wall, tucking it just inside the near post and past the keeper to give the Eagles their second straight win.
Ardron now has scored four goals on the season and six in his career.
The Eagles (6-6, 2-6 GLIAC) will travel to Midland, Mich. on Friday (Oct. 13) to take on Northwood as they look to continue their winning streak.
