In the first day of its 2017 spring debut on Saturday (March 18) in Georgetown, Ky., Ashland University's men's golf team is tied for 14th in the 21-team Saginaw Valley State Spring Invitational.
The Eagles fired a team round of 315 on Saturday. Grand Valley State leads after the first 18 holes with a team score of 298, followed by Tiffin (300) and Lake Superior State and Cedarville (303 each).
Junior Chandler Walnsch paced Ashland's Day 1 effort with a 3-over-par 75. That puts him in a tie for 15th place individually going into Day 2.
Sophomore Austin Kondratick and freshman Patrick Steffen each fired rounds of 79, while junior Gabriel Reynolds carded an 82. Sophomore Cole Smith (85), senior Jeremy Hanna (86) and sophomore Frank Steffen (87) rounded out the Ashland day.
