Ashland University head men's golf coach Darrin Jones has announced the signing of Padua Franciscan's Ben Jones to begin the Eagles' 2017-18 recruiting class.
"He's a very polished athlete," Darrin Jones said. "He's got a very good swing, he's got a good game, he already knows how to score. He's somebody that we can help take to the next level. He knows how to be competitive. What he needs from me and from our program is to fine-tune the little aspects to become an amazing player, and he really can in this program.
"Ben's a good kid. He is a self-driven kid. We've heard nothing but good things about him from everyone we talked to. He's just a great fit from top to bottom. I was very happy that he chose to come here and be a part of our family."
Ben Jones was a first-team All-Ohio selection as a senior, boasting an 18-hole average of 73.6 in 16 rounds. In 13 events in 2016, he finished with 12 top-five finishes, including three wins, three second-place showings and two third-place endings.
Among Jones' individual awards are four first-team All-North Coast League and honorable mention Cleveland Plain Dealer Player of the Year laurels. He was Padua Franciscan's team Most Valuable Player three times.
Jones also was part of two state qualifying teams in 2015 and 2016, and two sectional championship squads.
He was a four-year varsity golf letter winner at Padua Franciscan.
